Addictions and Smoking
Everyone knows Hypnotherapy's great for helping you
to quit, that's why so many celebrities are turning to it.
Nicotine replacement companies are more than happy for smokers to believe
that addiction is physical. However this is not true. Over 90% of smokers give up without any form of nicotine replacement
at all. How is this possible if they are physically addicted? How could smokers go 8 hours at night without a cigarette, but
only 30 minutes or so during the day? Because addictions are mostly psychological and linked to stress levels, so a psychological
solution is what is needed to give-up PERMANANTLY!
Elkins
and Rajab (2004) found in a large clinical review that 95% of smokers were satisfied with Hypnosis as an anti-smoking intervention.
Anxiety and Stress
Anxiety and Stress play a crucial role in nearly all aspects of ill-health.
If you are stressed and anxious it will affect nearly every area of your life! Research has shown that people who are relaxed
when undergoing operations recover more quickly, have fewer complications, and have far more physical and psychological well
being after the operation when compared with others who are stressed. If you are anxious or stressed Harmony will help you

Depression
The World Health Organization states that Depression is one of the
biggest causes of disability, with over 120 million sufferers worldwide. It is estimated that 15% of the population will suffer
depression at sometime in their lives.
To lift yourself out of depression and protect yourself from it in
the future, it is important to make real behavioural, thinking, emotional, and lifestyle changes! Harmony will help you.
Yapko (2001) stated that Hypnosis has "been shown to not only reduce
depression, but also the likelihood of relapses, thus simultaneously addressing issues of risk factors and prevention".
Habits and Nail biting
Many people have habits that they
wish to control. Some are just annoying, and others can be harmful to themselves or others. No-one consciously thinks to themselves
'ah, I think I will do that annoying habit for a while'. Usually there is an unconscious craving to do it, or people just

Obsessions (OCD)
Obsessions and obsessive behaviours can affect someone's life on many

number. Or something that may have more substantial affects, such as obsessions with pornographic images or obsessive thoughts
about certain violent acts. However, it is important to take control of obsessions and save time, stress, and the potential

Pain control
Working in Psychology on the pain managment ward in a major Bristol
hospital, Pain management is one of my personal areas of interest. Pain is an extremely complicated and complex area of treatment.

Anbar (2001) found that patients suffering from abdominal pain had
their pain resolved after a single hypnosis session.
Phobias and Fears
Phobias are extremely disabling. A phobia of planes means you can't

Dash (1981) found that severe needle phobia was removed with 3 sessions

Anbar and Slothower (2006) found that 90% of insomniac patients in
their research trial found sleeping far easier after receiiving hypnosis is a treatment option.
Weight loss
Weight loss is one of my favourite things to help someone with. Everything
in your life will improve if you are at a healthy and comfortable weight. I see clients become physically fitter, feeling
more attractive, their confidence increases, blood pressure and cholesterol levels improve, they feel happier and embrace
life more. Now to be honest losing the weight is the easy bit. It is too often the case that when people stop going to
weight loss classes or start normalizing a diet, they fall back to old ways. Many people lose weight, and then put it back
on, many, many times in their lives. What a waste of time, effort, and commitment! That's why it's important that Harmony
clients don't just live a healthy lifestyle, but they become healthy people, and are able to continue easily and naturally
on their own afterwards.
At a NHS hospital controlled research trial, Stradling et al (1998)
found that patients receiving hypnotherapy achieved significantly more weight loss than patients who just received nutrition
and dietary advice.
So what exactly is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is the type of consciousness we are in when we are our most relaxed, alert, creative,
and receptive selves. You may have experienced it when out having fun with friends, and everything you say just seems to be
effortless and natural.

It is where you focus naturally on something, and you are only aware of how to experience that moment
fully, to get the best from it. If you watch top sprots people or musicians you will seen them enter this state of relaxed-focus
many times when they are performing their best.
Are there any downsides to
hypnosis? I believe some of the myths!

Are there any side affects? There are no side-effects, except that people will want to spend more
time with you, you'll perform better and be more successful, and you'll be happier and healthier. I'm afraid that's just
something you'll have to put up with!

Will I say anything I don't want to or be controlled in anyway? No you won't. You are fully in
control the entire session. You are in complete control. In fact one of the huge benefits of hypnosis is that a lot of
the therapeutic work can be done content free, whereby I don't need to know what it is your doing inside your own mind, I
just guide the method and you add the content. This allows issues that people don't feel comfortable talking about to be worked
on without any uneasiness or embarrassment.

A stage hypnotist will often present his performance, just a magician does, as something it isn't. Remember hypnosis is an
amplifier of experience. The stage hypnotist asks for volunteers to join him onstage to have a bit of fun. So
people are volunteering, they willing want to go up and let go and have abit of fun. Now with that context set, hypnosis is
used to amplify that experience. There is no mind control! If you volunteer to do something, i.e. get up on stage and dance
around, then is it really a surprise when you go up on stage and dance around? It's really not! However the use of hypnosis
allows people to have an even more in-depth experience whereby if they usually enjoy dancing, they can enjoy themselves even
more than usual.

Anger control
There are many reasons why people get angry, and there are even more
reasons why it can ruin your life. Aggression ruins relationships, loses friends, and affects our lives in general. The important
thing is not to try to control a situation or another person through aggression, but control yourself in the situation or
interaction. A problem with aggression is one of the things a person shouldn't hesitate to take control of, because it affects
those we hold most important in our lives.
Smith (2004) presented a case study of a female patient who had experienced
abuse by a partner, and found that hypnosis rapidly reduced her levels of anger and resentment, which were replaced with
a sense of self-acceptance.

Confidence
Confidence! We could all do with more confidence. Real belief in ourselves,
rather than a pseudo-ego boost. The problem with friends, counselors, mentors and most therapists is that they try to build
your confidence by rationalizing your fears to you. Have you ever felt nervous and unconfident about something and someone
has said "Don't be silly, it's not going to harm you!". Did it make it better? Maybe you've even tried to rationalize that
to yourself about something? Well the problem is that it is not a rational problem; it is an unconscious-emotive problem.
This is why Hypnotherapy can be just the answer, by working at an unconscious, emotional level to create change!
Tschugguel et al (2003) found that
the use of hypnotherapy with clients dramatically increased their self-confidence and sense of well-being.

Exam Nerves
Regardless of how hard you study or how academically gifted you are,
if you cannot perform when it counts, it can heavily affect your results in any area of academic study. During my studies
I have seen many 'Grade-A' students come up short because, through nerves, they didn't excel in an exam or presentation
situation.
On a personal note, I managed to acheive a first class Psychology
degree, whilst simultaneously working two jobs, undertaking
a ward based work placement, and completing two professional certificates of merit! How did I do this? By using a number of
enhanced learning strategies that I now use with my clients in order for you get the most from your study time!

Irritable-Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Irritable-bowel syndrome can often be a painful and often embarrassing
complaint to have. However, Hypnotherapy has been found to be one of the most effective treatment options for it!
Gonsalkorale (2003) found that "the beneficial effects of
hypnotherapy appear to last at least five years" and "is a viable therapeutic option for the treatment of irritable bowel
syndrome."

Skin disorders

Shehefelt (2000) in an extensive literature review found that "a
wide spectrum of dermatologic disorders may be improved or cured using hypnosis as an alternative or complementary
therapy, including acne excoriée, alopecia areata, atopic dermatitis, congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma,
dyshidrotic dermatitis, erythromelalgia, furuncles, glossodynia, herpes simplex, hyperhidrosis, ichthyosis
vulgaris, lichen planus, neurodermatitis, nummular dermatitis, postherpetic neuralgia, pruritus, psoriasis,
rosacea, trichotillomania, urticaria, verruca vulgaris, and vitiligo".

Sports performance
Top sportsmen and women are at the cutting of research and human performance.
They have the money and information to find out what makes the big differences to human achievements. And guess what? More

Liggett (2000) stated that hypnosis is widely recognized as enhancing
athlete's performance. One of the most powerful psychological methods used by athletes is visualisation. Liggett found that
"hypnosis substantially enhances imagery intensity and effectiveness."

Liossi (2001) found in
an extensive research trial that patients in a hypnosis intervention group had significantly better overall
quality of life and lower levels of anxiety and depression when compared to a standard care group. It is concluded that hypnosis
is effective in the enhancement of quality of life in terminally ill cancer patients.
